Graham expected back in 2019

Brian Gutekunst has shown no fear parting ways with the players of regimes past. He cut Jordy Nelson last offseason. He traded Ha Ha Clinton-Dix midseason. After an underwhelming first season on the field, though, one of Gutekunst’s key acquisitions – tight end Jimmy Graham – was on the rumor mill as a potential cap casualty with the installation of a new head coach and new offense. Would Gutekunst cut bait with one of “his” guys so quickly? Not likely:

Graham reeled-in 55 catches on 89 targets last season, good for 636 yards and two touchdowns. It matched a career low in touchdown catches in a season for Graham; a disappointing mark for a player expected to be a crown jewel in then head coach Mike McCarthy’s offensive scheme. Apparently, new head coach Matt LaFleur and Gutekunst have faith that Graham has plenty left in the tank…assuming he can stay healthy.

Graham has two years and roughly $17 million remaining on his deal, carrying up to $11 million in dead cap.
