Nelson close to first rehab start

April 23, 2019 - 2:26 pm

Jimmy Nelson's long road to recovery from his 2017 shoulder injury has taken plenty of turns. Now, those turns seem to be taking a clear course toward the big leauges.

Nelson made his return to in-game, mound action during Brewers Spring Training in February -- his first time doing so since September 2017. He remained in Arizona for extended Spring Training as the rest of the Cactus Crew headed for Opening Day at Miller Park or affiliated ball at the minor-league level. Now, Nelson is eyeing the next big step in his bid to rejoin the guys that made the trip from Arizona to Milwaukee -- minor-league rehab starts.

It is expected that, assuming no setbacks, Nelson will join the Brewers' Triple-A affiliate -- the San Antonio Missions -- to begin making his "official" rehab starts. The FAN's baseball insider Adam McCalvy has more here.
