ST. LOUIS -- The Brewers are at risk of being swept in St. Louis for the second time this season when they take the diamond Wednesday night. The Crew is in the midst of a dismal six-game losing streak (five at Busch Stadium) to the division-leading Cardinals. If momentum and riding the hot hand means anything in baseball, the Brewers send their best man to the mound to thwart a loss tonight: right-hander Adrian Houser.

Two starts ago, Houser threw a career-high 10 strikeouts in a (then) career-high six innings pitched, earning his fifth win of the season in a one-run outing against the Rangers. He followed that outing with a career high seven-inning performance against the Nationals; he allowed one run on two hits, but the Nationals won the game.

The unexpected starter has been valuable for the Brewers this season. One pitcher the Brewers were expecting to be valuable this season, though, is now anything but on the diamond:
