Formed by glaciers ages ago, the land at Erin Hills is as natural as natural gets. The peaks and valleys are truly a sight to see. From everything I've read and heard, this piece of property was destined to be a golf course. Gary D'Amato of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel wrote an incredible five part series on the making of Erin Hills. You really need to check this out...

During the construction of the course, about 90% of the land was completely un-altered. Unlike many courses that transfer dirt to reshape the land, Erin Hills did not need such a facelift. The course lays out with the fairways primarily in the valleys, while the tee boxes and greens remain elevated on each end. The topography of this golf course is nothing that I've ever seen before in my life.

Now, how will this course play for the pros?

I like to call these guys the Three Wise Men - Mike Hurdzan, Dana Fry, and Ron Whitten. These are the architects of this special course. In the video below, they discuss what the pros will face next month. They also give a breakdown of the tough Par 3 9th, one of their signature holes out here. Believe it or not, I parred this hole. The distance from tee green was 130 yards, but with the wind in your face, it was more like a 150 yard shot. I stuck it about 25 feet from the cup and two-putted for my par. Bottom line, you need to be precise off the tee and play the wind to your best ability...

I must attribute the "You can't outdo God" quote from Dana'll hear it in the video...
